Class 3A Preseason Outlook

Thursday, August 20, 2009

DISTRICT 28-3A

Cuero is primed to make another impressive run with QB Tyler Arndt and RB Trent Jackson returning to the offensive backfield, but only if the Gobblers can overcome the loss of 10 defensive starters. Yoakum, with former Orange Grove coach Brent Kornegay now at the helm, return nine starters on offense and seven on defense. Edna and Goliad figure to clash over the final playoff spot.

DISTRICT 31-3A

Sinton’s resurgence last season made each one of its district foes take notice. The defending 31-3A champions return with a blend of starters and greenhorns, including an all-new offensive line. Ingleside boasts the most returning starters of any team with 15, but the remaining teams will surely be looking for ways around the experience.

The Pirates and Mustangs can’t count out Robstown and Corpus Christi West Oso. The Cotton Pickers are hungry after reaching the playoffs last season for the first time since 1966, while the Bears hope to make up for missing the postseason a year ago.
